Mission Home Project

As part of our outreach at Bethlehem, in 2007 we purchased property adjoining the church parking lot. Through congregational donations and many hours of volunteer labor, we were able to renovate the three bedroom house into a home for refugees involved in the Independent Living Program through Lutheran Social Services of Michigan. This program allows youth who have aged out of the foster care system to transition to independent living by giving them the opportunity to learn how to manage a household, budget their finances, and live in a home with their peers. Upon completion, the house became home for three young men from three different continents and cultures. For these refugees from Sudan, Burma and Guatemala, this home serves as a catalyst for a future filled with success.
